But the thing is, wine is not only delicious drink or a business for Georgians, it’s very close to their hearts and is a symbol of hospitality, badge of pride and expression of national identity. A statue of Kartli’s deda (Mother of Georgia), which is on the top of the mountain, overlooking Old Tbilisi, holds a sword to ward of enemies in one hand, and bowl of wine in the other to welcome friends, that’s exactly how warm hearted Georgians will welcome a guest in their homes.
