Overview

Georgia is the country with the thousands of years of history! Therefore, whole bunch of myths and legends have gathered in collective memory. Many of them are scientifically confirmed. Georgians were the first people who domesticated bees and produced ‘sweet gold’ even in the 3rd century BC – archaeologists suggest. Unique climate of Georgia and artificial selection made it possible for local farmers to create authentic Georgian breed ‘Georgian high mountain bee’. It’s quite possible that the honey found in archaeological artifacts were produced by the ancestors of those bees. You can visit Georgian museums and see pitchers full of lime-tree and field flower honeys dating back to 23-24 century BC.
