Georgia – Cradle of Wine

If it’s wine o’clock somewhere, it is definitely in Georgia! If you’re wine lover, or even slightly like the taste of it, and still don’t know anything about this gorgeous country – we’ve got a great news for you! This heavenly liquid, sent from gods above, was basically born in Georgia – a wine-crazy country that has it all – more than 500 species of wine, along with its mind-blowing oldest history and traditions, as well as culture that comes with it, and the whole importance of wine itself.

In order to fully understand the importance of wine to this country, we’ve got to time travel for a little. Now, imagine life 8000 years ago – this is the time when people still used just stone and bone tools. Meanwhile in a small village of mountainous country, Georgian stone-age farmers were creating a magical liquid, also known as wine.

In 2017, oldest evidence of winemaking was discovered at 8000 year old village in Georgia, making it a true birthplace of wine. However, archaeologists still haven’t reached lowest, oldest layers of the site, they even might be able to push the date back even further. Archaeologists also found 6th millennium BC wine-making Qvevri.
